Pet Peeves
I hate when people touch and leave fingerprints on my car, especially after I've just washed it. Don't parents these days teach their kiddies that it is disrespectful to touch other people's property? I hate when people give their opinion even when its not wanted and they feel a need to inject their two cents in everything. Labels: Opinion

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Like all Tim Burton/Johnny Depp creations, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is different, a departure from the action movie ad nauseum of the summer season. Its a visual feast for the eyes, rich in color. The plot stays true to the original, sometimes too true, and has many moments that just makes you go, "Awwwwwww." Johnny Depp plays a eccentric weirdo with shocking Michael Jacksonsque similarities. It teaches a rare lesson about the evils of soceity, namely gluttony, pride, sloth and greed, and about the importance of family. I give Charlie a 7 out of 10. Labels: Movies

No more coffee in GTA San Andreas
Unless you've been living under a rock in recent weeks, a modder named PatrickW discovered some hidden sexual content in Grand Theft Auto 3: San Andreas. His mod, called Hot Coffee, activates this code and allows the player to simulate different sex acts after a successful date and is invited by the girlfriend for some coffee. Of course, all the goodie goodies of the world, have come out to protest. It didn't help that the GTA series is already the posterboy for gratuitous violence in gaming. Parent groups, like Parents Television Council, have their panties all up in a bunch. Senators Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman have each other's panties all up in a bunch last week over having some hot coffee. Don't self-righteous people know that the more they cry, scream and yell foul, the more attention GTA is getting? Until yesterday, I didn't own a copy of San Andreas. I had wanted the game but just never got around to getting it. Because of the hype of threat of ban, I picked up a copy immediately after I learned that the ESRB re-rated the game to Adults Only. It must be worth some money on EBay some day. One of the last copies sold before the ban and its mine. Yes, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) re-rated Grand Theft Auto 3: San Andreas from M (Mature 17+) to AO (Adults Only 18+) late yesterday. Most retailers like EB Games, GameStop, Best Buy, Target, even Walmart have pulled their copies from their shelves and websites as they do not sell AO games. This is the commercial kiss of death. Rockstar Games, GTA's producer, has acknowledged the hidden sexual content that the Hot Coffee mod activates and will re-release the game, with the content removed, to reattain its M rating. I don't see what the big deal is really. The Sims can be modded for full nudity and sex acts yet its rated T (Teen 13+). And when I mean full nudity, I mean you see much more than some titties and ass. Its everything, including the dude's ding dong. The packaging on GTA clearly states the M rating and strong sexual content. I guess its now that we come to find out exactly what they meant by "strong", but regardless, this AO rating is ridiculous. Its not OK to sell this game to someone 17 or younger but its OK for someone 18 and over. Is there some physical, psychological or emotional change that occurs in everyone between 17 and 18 that makes them better abled or ready for GTA? If there is, enlighten me, because I don't know of any. The goodie goodies have always wanted an AO rating for GTA because they claim that violent video games makes kids more violent and they know an AO rating will effectively kill any chance of commerical success GTA would have. Unfortunately they have won this round. And by the way, violent video games/movies/tv shows do not kill, irresponsible parents that let their under-17 year old child play this type of game at the first place kill, lack of education kills, drugs kill, guns kill. So while our Senators are wasting tax payer's time and money on trying banning violent video games, we have other legislation that turns Florida into the modern wild wild west. Instead of increasing gun control and reducing real life violence, our public servants are encouraging people to shoot each other. Public education is pathetic in Miami, where is legislation to improve our schools? When did a virtual person killed in a video game become more important than the death of a real person? Oh and in case you have GTA San Andreas and don't or can't find the Hot Coffee mod for it, here it is... Original Hot Coffee Mod v2.1 - no idea how to use it, I believe you need a modded PS2 GTA SA Censor Remover Tool v1.5 - you need Action Replay Max Evo Edition, modifies and removes the censor from your PS2 save file AR Max CodesAnd finally in response to Jack Thompson's open letter to the gaming producers and studios, Hillary, Lieberman and all the self righteous goodie goodie groups out there, I say keep rocking it Rockstar! Its not your fault that uncaring or ignorant parents choose to buy GTA San Andreas for their seven year old kid, then come to complain about the violence, gore and sex later. Hypocrites! GTA San Andreas is rated M for a mature audience, meaning its not a game for the little kiddies. Parents who care enough to know or research this will clearly not buy GTA for their children. I wouldn't if I had a seven year old son. In 2000, our then Governor Bush was asked about the link concerning violent games and Columbine. He simply replied, "Parents just have to be better parents." DOOM and the movie, The Matrix, didn't cause Columbine. The parents of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold ignored/missed the warning signs and had no clue what was really going on in their sons' lives. Parents just have to be better parents. PS - Say NO to Hillary in 2008! Labels: Video Games
More News from Mother Honda
Takeo Fukui, President and CEO of Honda gave his mid-year CEO speech today. Here are some of the highlights... There are three primary environmental challenges facing society: 1) achieving cleaner exhaust emissions in the effort to reduce air pollution, 2) reduction of CO2 emissions via improved fuel efficiency in the effort to reduce the threat of global warming, and 3) development of alternative energy sources, such as fuel cells, in the effort to address the future depletion of petroleum-based energy. Honda has long been committed to these issues and made achievements beyond government regulations. In 1972, Honda’s CVCC engine became the world’s first engine to meet the requirements of the 1970 Clean Air Act, and the Honda Civic with this CVCC engine became the most fuel efficient automobile in the U.S. for four consecutive years. Today, Honda leads the auto industry in the U.S. in terms of average fuel economy (CAFE). In Japan, Honda has already cleared 2010 fuel economy standards in all vehicle weight categories.
Good to see that Honda cares about our planet. Achievement and plans for fuel economy improvement for automobiles: With introduction of the all-new Civic this year, Honda will complete the shift to its next generation i-series engines for almost all models. With VTEC technology at the core, Honda has established distinctive technologies to improve fuel economy, including VCM. As a result, this new series of engines has achieved approximately a 20% improvement in fuel economy. For the 9th Mid-term, Honda will further advance VTEC technologies, introduce new technologies to control air intake with a continuously variable valve control system, and further advance existing VCM technology. These new technologies will be applied to key models within this Mid-term. Applying the latest technology is nothing new at Honda. The all-new Civic was developed with four body types to meet the unique requirements of each region. For the Japanese market, an emotional and stylish sedan which goes beyond the concept of the traditional Civic was developed. For the U.S. market, 2-door and 4-door types were developed, while a 4-door was also developed for Asia and 3-door and 5-door types were developed exclusively for Europe. The all-new Civic, developed under our approach of creating products to meet the needs of local customers, is a true global car with sales of more than 600,000 units annually in 160 countries in the world and with production in six regions, now to include China, where Civic production will begin next year. For the new Civic, Honda will offer an advanced powertrain lineup that includes various fuel options including gasoline, diesel, hybrid, CNG and ethanol – to meet the unique needs of each region. The new Civic is coming here in 2 and 4-door versions but no hatchback? Honda will introduce the fuel efficient Fit as an entry level model in North America. Fit models manufactured in Brazil will be introduced to Mexico in October of this year, and the Japan-made Fit will be introduced to the U.S. and Canada next spring. Honda will further expand its product lineup in order to respond to increasing customer demands for vehicles with high fuel efficiency. Great news! Finally the Fit is coming. $12K for this new Honda is a steal. I plan on getting this as my next car to use as a daily driver. And last and definitely not least... We are now focused on the development of a new model to succeed the NSX for a new era. We would like to debut a new super sports car equipped with a V10 engine in 3 to 4 years. Please look forward to seeing the NSX successor. :o V10 NSX successor huh? Where do I sign the future college fund of my future children away? SourceLabels: Honda
Frustrated.
I suck at autox. Simple, straight forward course yesterday but I still sucked. My best time was an 56.xx while the best times for the day were in the 48.xx range. In my BSP class, an 2004 S2000, stock but on Hossier racing tires, won the class with the best time of 50.xx, 6 seconds off mine. I came in a distant second, beating out a Corvette ZR-1. I suck. I need more mods to my S2000. I need racing tires. I need more practice and attend an autox school to learn more. I hate losing. Labels: Misc

The Not So Fantastic Four
Jessica Alba defines hotness. The special effects were cool, although cartoonish at times. But can her hotness and special effects save Fantastic Four from being not so fantastic? Maybe. The plot is predictable and filled with some many holes that the Human Torch can fly through them. Good guys beat up bad guys, good guys win, the end. There are a plethora of cheesy one-liners that riddled the already weak dialogue. The final climatic battle between good and evil was as interesting as watching two ants do battle in my driveway. Overall it was decent, definitely not at the level of other recent comics-turned-movies, such as Spiderman, Batman Begins and X-Men. I give it a 6 out of 10. Labels: Movies
MY2006 Honda S2000 Colors confirmed
Model ID AP2146ENW is the new 06. And yes Laguna Blue Pearl/Black is added. Gone are Sebring Silver/Red and Grand Prix White/Tan, replaced with Grand Prix White/Black. The 06 Color Palette is as follows... Laguna Blue Pearl/Black Berlina Black/Black Suzuka Blue Metallic/Blue New Formula Red/Black Sebring Silver Metallic/Black Silverstone Metallic/Black Silverstone Metallic/Red Grand Prix White/Black Rio Yellow/Black Lagune Blue will not be similar to BMW's M exclusive color Laguna Seca Blue so don't confuse them. My source claims Laguna Blue is a couple of shades lighter than Monte Carlo Blue. I'm thinking its going to be much like the Long Beach Blue Pearl on the NSX. Beautiful color in my opinion. Here's my rendition of Laguna Blue... Maybe not as bright, and a little darker but you get the idea. And goodbye to GPW's Tan! Labels: Honda S2000
May I present Sam, Ugliest Dog in the World
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The owners of the other contestants in this year's World's Ugliest Dog Contest may have thought their pooches had a chance - until they saw Sam.
The 14-year-old pedigreed Chinese crested recently won the Sonoma-Marin Fair contest for the third consecutive time, and it's no surprise.
The tiny dog has no hair, if you don't count the yellowish-white tuft erupting from his head. His wrinkled brown skin is covered with splotches, a line of warts marches down his snout, his blind eyes are an alien, milky white and a fleshy flap of skin hangs from his withered neck. And then there's the Austin Powers teeth that jut at odd angles from his mouth. SourceTo me, Sam looks more like a Grelim than a dog. I hope hes been neutered because I wouldn't want to see the Son of Sam. EEK! Labels: Funny
Honda NSX - The End
Honda to Discontinue Production of the NSX Sports Car -Successor sports car now in development-
TOKYO, Japan, July 12, 2005 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced that it will discontinue production of the NSX, a vehicle that has enjoyed considerable popularity as pure sports car and won many fans worldwide. Honda is currently working on a successor, a new sports car for a new era, which is to incorporate Honda's most advanced technology.

The NSX made its debut in 1990 as a genuine mid-engine sports car with an all-aluminum monocoque body-a world's first for a production vehicle at the time. The NSX continued to evolve, with performance improvements including increased displacement, a 6-speed manual transmission, enhanced aerodynamic performance, and different tire sizes, along with the addition of the NSX Type-T open-top model and the NSX Type-R pure sports model with further enhanced driving performance. One of the first true sports cars to adopt clean emissions measures, the NSX succeeded in combining exhilarating driving performance with superior environmental performance. As a result, the NSX achieved total worldwide sales of more than 18,000* units during the 15 years it was in production.
Even after NSX production draws to a close, Honda will continue to foster an environment supportive of NSX owners and their enjoyment of their cars, through meticulous maintenance of NSX vehicles, a Refresh Plan to preserve vehicles in their optimum condition, and the continuing support of NSX Owners' Meetings to assist owners who wish to enhance their driving skills.
Production of vehicles destined for the North American market will be discontinued at the end of December, 2005. Production of vehicles destined for the European market will be discontinued at the end of September, 2005. *As of the end of June 2005 Highlights of the History of the NSX

TORRANCE, Calif. 07/11/2005 -- To further enhance the division's performance image, Acura is developing a new sports car to succeed the award-winning NSX supercar. Acura also announced that production of the current generation NSX will cease at the end of the year due to the extensive retooling necessary to meet stringent 2006 emissions and equipment regulations for the U.S., Europe and Asia.
"We are committed to having an ultra high-performance vehicle in the Acura lineup in the future," said John Mendel, senior vice president, automobile operations. "It's too early to comment on specifics, but the all-new model will be just as groundbreaking as the 1991 NSX."
As the first-ever supercar from Japan, the NSX was created as a hand-built, exotic, mid-engine sports car that would establish entirely new levels of performance, refinement and drivability. The NSX went on sale in the summer of 1990 and the following year posted record U.S. sales of 1,940 vehicles. Through June of 2005, NSX cumulative sales totaled 8,854 in the U.S. and more than 18,000 worldwide.
During its 15-year run, the NSX has been showered with accolades including, Automobile Magazine's "Automobile of the Year and Design of the Year" awards, Popular Science's "Best of What's New," Road &Track's "Ten Best Cars in the World" list. Motor Trend magazine also named the NSX to its "Top Ten Performance Cars" list and touted it as "the best sports car ever built."
Acura designed the NSX as a technological and performance showcase. Among other innovations, it was the first production car to feature an all-aluminum body, chassis, and suspension and to utilize titanium connecting rods. It featured a transversely mounted dual overhead cam V-6 engine equipped with Acura's breakthrough VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system and a variable volume induction system.
Over time, the NSX received continuous updates to ensure its competitiveness and popularity with serious sports car enthusiasts. The NSX has also captured multiple championships in the highest levels of sports car and prototype racing.
Additional Acura information and downloadable high-resolution images of the NSX are available at www.acuranews.com. SourceAnd with this Honda's over-the-hill, aged relic is officially retired from the line-up and thankfully so. In its introduction and during its prime years, the NSX was Japan's first exotic supercar, and it was a Ferrari-fighter. With the assistance of the legendary F1 pilot, Ayrton Senna, in its development, the NSX embodied all things Honda. The formula was simple... make a sports car that was lightweight, high horsepower, high redline, world class transmission, stiff suspension and awesome handling. Development and production utilized the highest technology available. All this while keeping Honda's reknowned reliability and environmental friendliness. Sounds familiar? This same formula went into the S2000 as well. When the NSX arrived in showrooms in 1991, it represented Honda's ultimate achievement to date. It was Honda's halo car. However the years have not been kind to the NSX. 1992 and 2002 witnessed the additions of the NSX-R to the model line, a stripped down, all business, no frills supercar. 1997 welcomed the 3.2L engine and 6-speed manual transmission updates. It was not until 2001 when Honda finally decided to update and modernize the exterior design with refreshed front and rear fascias. Currently at an MSRP of $89K, even though real street price is somewhere around the $75K to $80K range and Acura is offering an aggressive leasing program ($1,999 down plus tax, tag and title/$799 per month for 36 months), the NSX is overpriced, outdated and outmatched in its class. In 1991, the NSX sold over 3,000 units worldwide, falling off to about 500 by 1997 and plummeting to less than 100 today. Once the Ferrari 348 killer at its debut, its now the Ferrari F430's lackie. For $75K, I much whether spend a few more G's for a Porsche 997 911 Carrera S, that can run circles around the NSX in reverse! Sadly, even a C6 Corvette can outperform the NSX. Some blame poor sales due to brand bigotry. A $90K Honda they ask?!?! I would buy a $90K Honda if it was worth it. Unfortunately the NSX is not. With only 290HP, its not even worth $75K. Maybe at $55K, it would be more tasty. This announcement is welcome and overdue for years. In an alternate, perfect universe somewhere, Honda would have either killed the NSX at the end of its prime in 1995/6/7/8 or performed more aggressive updates keeping up with advancing technology, even developing its successor 7 years ago, not 15 years after the original debut. But none of this happened, so today, a decade and a half after its introduction, Honda's once glorious turned unbecoming, aging mascot is officially dead. Today brings a mix of emotions. As a teenager, the NSX was my dream car. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to drive one, a 1991 model. I was impressed with its rawness, but coming from the S2000, I wasn't as impressed with its performance and handling. It is certainly better than the S2000, but only marginally better. While I'm happy and thankful that its gone, I'm sad at the same time. Its kinda like that an old relative in his 80's suffering from a long battle with cancer, who has finally passed on. While you are happy he's no longer suffering and at a better place, you're sad at the same time. I will miss the NSX. I only hope that the S2000 doesn't suffer the NSX's same fate. With a 2006 model already announced, the AP1 platform is already in its 6th model year and sales are steadily declining. I hope that we will not see a 2007 S2000. Honda should kill it before people start referring to it as a dinosaur and before it becomes too overpriced, outdated and outmatched. Besides the NSX retirement announcement, this press release also hints at its successor. "We are committed to having an ultra high-performance vehicle in the Acura lineup in the future," said John Mendel, senior vice president, automobile operations. "It's too early to comment on specifics, but the all-new model will be just as groundbreaking as the 1991 NSX." Ultra high performance and groundbreaking can only mean one thing for Honda - a V8 engine! Make it and they will buy. Labels: Honda

War of the Worlds
War of the Worlds is a pretty good movie, following the HG Wells classic closely, except for England, its New York City. The CGI effects are exceptional, something only Spielberg could have dreamed up. The performances by Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning are good as usual. Most of the movie was a seat of your pants thrill ride, as Ray Ferrier, the loser uncaring father is caught in the middle of the huge moment in human history, trying to save his kids and redeeming himself in the end. Now that I mention the end, this is where my complaints start. The movie suddenly ends. Ray and Rachel make it to Boston, the aliens suddenly gets sick and die without much explanantion, Robbie lives, the mom, step-father and ex-mother-in-law live too, everyone hugs and cries, the end. We were left wondering how the hell did the aliens die? The birds? Bacteria in the water supply? I guess its because we witness these events through Ray's eyes, we are left with these gapping plot holes. The movie would have been far better if Robbie died, how and why the aliens died was explained a bit more and the ending wasn't so cheesy happy. I give it 7/10. Labels: Movies
I just saved $75 on my auto insurance!
No I didn't switch to Geico but went back to Allstate. I'm with State Farm now and I'm paying $310 per month for auto insurance for both my cars. Allstate, my former insurance company, is now offering me $235 per month and with increased coverages - 100/300 bodily injury, 100 property, $500 deductible. Since I recently wrote a piece about buying a new car, I thought I would give out my advice on buying auto insurance. - Avoid those Mickey Mouse Tio Pepito's Seguro Hialeah types. Yeah they are cheap, but as in everything else in life, you get what you pay for. If you actually have an accident or are the victim of theft or vandalism, God forbid, and need to file a claim, I wish you luck. These little insurance companies will do everything it can to avoid paying out the claim. A friend of mine had his car stolen in December 2004. He had some small unknown insurance company because they were the cheapest he found. He filed the claim, they denied it saying that they suspect that he stole his own car. Stole his own car! To this day, he still does not have his money or his car and still needs to pay his monthly financing payments for a car that he no longer has. Its a pretty crappy situation. - Auto insurance companies look at several qualifying factors... credit, age, sex, marital status, home owner or renter, location, driving history, accident history, claim history, insurance record, year/make/model of your car. From this they calculate your insurance rating. - To get the best rate, you should have a 700+ FICO score, be over 25, male, married, home owner, no points in your driving history in the past 3 years, no accidents in the past 3 years, no claims in the past 3 years, no lapse in auto insurance in the past 5 years. - What does credit score have to do with auto insurance? It really doesn't but auto insurers seem to believe that people with bad credit are a higher risk and they have studies to prove it. I call BS. - At 25, you qualify for regular adult rates. - Under 25, guys are considered more risk. Over 25, the situation is reversed so why are women considered higher risk? Because women cannot drive. Just kidding! - Getting married also drops the rate a little. But I wouldn't run out to ask any random girl to be your insurance discount just yet. - Usually people freak when they get a ticket and think their auto insurance will go up. False. Simply getting a ticket will not affect your policy. Being found quilty and acquiring points does however. This is why when you do get a ticket, do not just pay for it and forget it. Take it to a lawyer. Its only $75 and he'll deal with it. I get several tickets a year for speeding usually. I simply fax the ticket and a copy of my credit card to my lawyer and a few months later, its dismissed. No worries. - Even when switching between policies, do not let your old policy end before the new one begins. If it lapses, you will be looking at higher rates. - Get as much discounts as you can. Because I have two cars, I qualify for the multi-car discount. There are passive restraint, educational, active alarm discounts, etc. - If you have two cars, list one as your daily driver and the other as your weekend pleasure vehicle. - Shop around for the best rate. Allstate, State Farm, Geico, Progressive, Traveler's are good places to start. In my experience, Geico has very strict credit and driving history requirements. I didn't even qualify for Geico. Progressive is probably the most expensive out of the group but if you have a bad driving record, they'll probably accept you. Both Allstate and State Farm are good, but I find Allstate's rates, customer service and claim handling to be better. Allstate's rate is lower, I'm getting better coverage and better service. State Farm has treated me good these past two years but in the end, I'm in good hands with Allstate. Labels: Opinion

Lance Wears Yellow
In his final bid to win the Tour de France for the 7th unprecedented time, Lance Armstrong is now at the top of the overall standings after today's Stage 4 claiming the Yellow Leader's Jersey. This is a historic moment in the sports/cycling world as we witness arguably the greatest cyclist/cancer survivor in history go for his 7th victory in the 2005 Tour. And normally we try not to clutter up our site with web advertising but lets make an exception in this case. For the length of the 2005 Tour and possibly beyond, a small flash banner promoting LiveSTRONG.org will be displayed on the right side. The Lance Armstrong Foundation has helped many survive cancer, its an excellent charity to donate towards a noble cause. I Wear Yellow and so should you! Labels: Cycling
