Jack is Back

Jack is back and now a shadow of his former self having experienced untold and unimaginable torture in China. Within minutes of setting foot on US soil, poor Jack is informed that he was brought back only to be sacrificed. The poor guy doesn't even get a few minutes of rest or have a request for a last meal fulfilled as he is left to the terrorists. Despite this, Jack accepts his sacrificial role and stoically awaits his destiny as today is a day that he can die for something. Four hours later, Jack has escaped, uncovered the true terrorist plot, killed Curtis, witnessed a stunning nuclear bomb detonate and the day has just begun.

Day 6 is quickly proving to be the best 24 season yet. The theme of Muslim extremists and the resulting racial backlash are not only relevant to our day but also reminds us to be vigilant. A broken Jack Bauer will have to rediscover himself and figure out what he is fighting for, all over again. I hope that this will really give Keifer Sutherland the opportunity to explore his character to a greater extent than ever before.

At a certain level, we feel sorry for Jack. He has lost his wife, became addicted to heroine, forced to amputate his partner's hand, faked his own death and as a result his daughter hates him, witnessed the deaths of his friends, kidnapped and tortured by the Chinese while battling Muslim and Russian terrorists, Columbian drug lords and a rogue President. This is all in a day's work for Jack Bauer but I hope that the writers of 24 will finally give Jack a well deserved break at the end of this day.
